Question: Why is it that, when I connect, Trumpet reports "modem not responding"?
There are several reasons why a modem is not responding. Check if the modem is switched on. Check your modem cable connection. Check if you have configured the port correctly. Most PCs have only two ports. Com1 is commonly used by the mouse and Com2 by the modem. Be sure that the port is configured to the one connected to the modem.

Question: Why is it that, when I connect, I can hear the modem touch tone dialing but I get continuous dial tone and cannot connect?
You probably have a pulse type telephone line. Go to QuickSetup and set phone type accordingly.

Question: I have a 56kbs modem. Why can’t I connect at maximum speed?
Conditions of telephone lines affect connection speed. Modems will automatically adjust to the speed that has the least error rate. If you have an inferior telephone connection, this can be much lower than the maximum speed you have. Hum, noise or cross-talk are some factors that affect the speed of your phone line. Most old analog lines (6 digit lines) have this problem.

Question: How do I test if my mail program isproperly working?
You can send an E-mail to yourself or to your friends. If you addressed the mail to yourself, retrieve it. If it is there, then your mail is working properly. If you sent it to your friend, ask if he received your mail, if he does, then your mail if working well.

    Question: Is E-mail secure?
No. Most people probably think that E-mails are secured. Actually, it is like a postcard sent in the open where anybody can read it. Those with access to the host computers where your E-mails are routed can read your E-mails. If you have to send classified data by E-mail, you can use encryption to safeguard it. PGP, a public key encryption software, is available at FTP Sites.

    Question: How fast is Email?
It's very fast. When you’re logged-on, it only takes a blink of an eye, to get your E-mail to the other side of the globe. Of course, the E-mail will remain in the host computer of its recipient until one logs on and retrieves it. It is best that you log regularly to retrieve your mail.

Question: Why can’t I logout and quit Trumpet even though I clicked "Bye"?
Trumpet could be busy that's why it is not responding to your command. Click on the text screen of Trumpet, press ESC on your keyboard a few times and then click "Bye".

Question: Why is it that Trumpet or Eudora ask for my password every time I use it? Can't I set them to remember my password?
This was intentional for the purpose of security precaution. Understand that if these software have your password in memory, anyone with access to your computer can use your account and access your mail. Though if you want this feature, we can install it back for you.

Question: Why can’t I connect and I always get an "invalid login" message?
There are different probably reasons why you cannot log in. Check if you are using the correct login name? Check if you typed the right password. If you are sharing your account with another person, he might be online when you were trying to connect. The server will accept only one of you at a time. Check with the system administrator if you have this problem.
